  1. Dar a luz (“dahr ah looth”)

= To give birth

(Literally translates to ‘To give to light’)

Eg. Va a dar a luz mañana= She is going to give birth tomorrow

 

  1. Quedarse de piedra (“keh-dahr-seh deh pyeh-drah”)

= To be shocked/amazed

(Literally translates to ‘To stay of stone’)

Eg. Me quedé de piedra= I was shocked

 

  1. Ser una ave noctura (“sehr oo-nah ah-beh nohk-toor-nah”)

= To be a night owl

(Literally translates to ‘To be a night bird’)

Eg. Soy una ave noctura= I’m a night owl

 

  1. Tirar la casa por la ventana (“tee-rahr lak kah-sah pohr lah behn-tah-nah”)

= To spare no expense

(Literally translates to ‘To throw the house out of the window’)

Eg. Tiraremos la casa por la ventana para celebrar mi cumpleaños este año=

We’ll spare no expense to celebrate my birthday this year

 

  1. Estar hecho un ají (“ehs-tahr eh-choh oon ah-hee”)

= To be very angry

(Literally translates to ‘To be made a chilli’)

Eg. Estoy hecho un ají= I’m very angry
