Seville’s must sees

The ‘Real Alcázar de Sevilla’ is a royal palace that was originally used as a fort but has been enlarged and later become a palace that has been a residence for many previous monarchs. It has influences from both the Gothic and the Romanesque periods that are prominent throughout difference pieces of architecture in the city. This is one of the UNESCO world heritage sites in the city, registered in 1987. Many may recognise this palace is featuring in the Game of Thrones TV series. There are many ‘salónes’ that have exquisite art and ceiling detail throughout the palace and also extensive gardens and courtyards with fountains and statues.

La Catedral de Santa María de la Sede’ is a roman catholic cathedral in Seville and is also a UNESCO world heritage site. It is the 4th largest church in the world and also the largest church from the Gothic period. The most famous part of the church is the bell tower, also known as ‘La Giralda’. Previously a mosque, it is incorporated into the minaret (the tower that calls Muslims to prayer) and is the tomb of Christopher Columbus.
The Metropol Parasol’ (also known as ‘Las Setas’ = the mushrooms) is a modern architectural structure made from wood in large mushroom shapes that, when taking the lift up to the top, you can walk along the walkway to see 360° views of the city, and a beautiful sunset in the evening.
