Fiestas in Valencia-
Las Fallas is the biggest and most famous fiesta in Valencia which lasts a full week during March. Large and colourful monuments made of carton representing different characters, people or themes are placed throughout the city, which are then burned on the final day. Nowadays, during the week of festivities, gunpowder, or ‘falleros’, set off rockets and firecrackers throughout the neighbourhood, often shower extraordinary displays.
Another famous fiesta is La Tomatina in Buñol to the west of Valencia but still within the region. Here, an organised food fight takes place at the end of August every year, where thousands of people throw over-ripe tomatoes at each other across the streets.
